These are some area businesses that I think do a really good job:

REI - Recreational Equipment, Inc. has a great staff! Each time I've had questions or asked recommendations, they've really come through. Plus, the stores are so cool!

Restaurants and pubs (disclaimer: I have pretty simple tastes)

• Pyramid Brewery and Alehouse, Seattle
  Some of the best brews around and always good food and atmosphere.
• Rose Hill Ale House, Kirkland
  My soccer team likes to gather here after games. They're a good sports bar, non-smoking (always a plus in my book), with a good beer selection, good food, and reasonable prices.
• Mamma Melina Ristorante, University District, Seattle
  This is a gem -- a tiny little nook bringing the real thing in Italian, right down to the owner who bursts into song every now and then. I had been passing this place on my way to work all the time, and finally got a chance to stop in for dinner. Great food, upscale service but very affordable pricing and a festive atmosphere. We noticed a lot of navy, white, and gold buttons on Opening Day of yacht season.
• I have to add one "chain" restaurant - Red Robin - mostly because they serve dinner late and that's usually when Scott and I go out. Another late night spot (24-hours, actually) is 13 Coins. I was told that it was a glorified, pricey Denny's, but it absolutely is not. We had a great time, seated at the cool chairs at the counter (Engage!), and the food was great. Plus, one of the chefs was doing cool fire tricks all the way down the line.
